Meet the Dog Superstar: Tuna

Meet Tuna – isn’t he gorgeous? Tuna is an internet celebrity (and meme). A Chihuahua-Dachshund crossbreed, he was abandoned by his original owner near to San Diego.

He was adopted by his current owner, Courtney Dasher when she picked him up at a local farmers’ market. Courtney created an Instagram page for him and, when a photo of him appeared of the company’s website, his followers increased hugely. Courtney has used Tuna’s celebrity status to raise money for animal rescue groups.

Tuna has since become very famous. He’s got 1.8 million followers on Instagram and he’s been invited to lots of events, including the launch party for the 2015 Choo Hound collection at the Ivy Chelsea Garden restaurant in London.
Tuna is very good at dressing up. His Instagram account features plenty of pictures of Tuna wearing different costumes – from American flags and tee shirts proclaiming Tuna for President, to superhero outfits and more.

The little dog has followers all over the world. While a large number comes from the United States, he also has plenty of followers in the UK, Sweden and Australia. Courtney has used Tuna’s popularity to support the work of animal rescue groups, both by raising general awareness of rescue animals and by generating funding for certain groups.

A book of photographs of Tuna entitled Tuna Melts My Heart: The Underdog With The Overbite, was released last year.
After the launch, a book tour took place in March 2015 in the United States, with events held to benefit local animal rescue societies such as the Animal Rescue League of Boston and PAWS Chicago.

The book was later released in the UK. As part of the promotion for the UK launch, Courtney and Tuna appeared on the ITV programme This Morning, and took over the Marie Claire Instragram account for a day on June 3.

Hey girl hey. #lookinfynine! ??
